The Macallan has released Horizon, crafted in collaboration with Bentley Motors and fusing expertise from the worlds of single malt whisky and luxury automotive design.
Bringing together both traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge precision engineering technology, The Macallan Horizon is presented in a visionary horizontal vessel featuring a unique 180-degree twist detail.
The design reflects the horizontal trajectory of the automotive world and was visualised following extensive collaboration between The Macallan and Bentley Motors.
In tribute to The Macallan’s Six Pillars, which are its foundation stones for the character of The Macallan and the creation its rich spirit, six materials are incorporated that are integral to The Macallan and Bentley Motors.
Six casks were selected and combined for this release. Tasting notes include toffee, ginger, charred pineapple, sweet vanilla, dark chocolate, and warm oak spice on the palate.
The bottle lays horizontally with an aluminum ribbon wrapped around it, representing one of the key materials used in the construction of Bentley’s fleet. The decanter is housed in a sculpture made of low carbon leather with a copper frame, which was crafted out of recycled metal from the distillery’s old stills. Finally, one of the casks that the whisky was matured in was used to construct the oak inlay.
The Macallan Creative Director Jaume Ferras said: “The Macallan Horizon is the most complex and visionary whisky project that The Macallan has embarked upon, and has required a profound and ongoing exchange of expertise with the team at Bentley Motors.”
Bentley chairman and CEO Adrian Hallmark said: “We’ve spent years working with The Macallan through our partnership, taking time to craft this incredible first joint product that represents the best of both brands.
“Centred on innovative materials throughout that reflect our focus on the future, the end result – both the whisky and the vessel that contains it – are stunning, and represent a new benchmark for design, materials and quality in this space.”
The limited edition release is available from the Macallan Estate Boutique and select retailers for £43,000 (US$55,091).
