Better Beer is kicking off summer with the launch of Halfy, an ultra-low carb lager brewed with the same hop profile as the original brew.
Better Beer is co-owned by Nick Cogger, a health-conscious publican from Torquay and comedians, Matt Ford and Jack Steele (The Inspired Unemployed).
Cogger said: “Halfy is made for the real Aussie drinking moments – the long day watching the cricket, the Sunday arvo BBQ, the cheeky midweek knock-off – when you want the full beer experience without tapping out early.
“We’re seeing a big move towards moderation, wellness and balance. Halfy brings that to life in a way that still tastes like proper beer. Think of it like micro-dosing alcohol – it keeps you in the game without slowing you down.”
The launch comes as Australia’s beer scene continues to evolve, with low and no-alcohol segments growing +24% and mid-strength +13% in retail value. This shift is being driven largely by under-35s, who are prioritising wellness, better sleep and self-improvement.
For The Inspired Unemployed duo, Halfy is a natural extension of what Better Beer stands for.
“Halfy just makes sense – sometimes you want to send it, sometimes you want to half-send it,” they said.
“It’s still refreshing like our original Better Beer, only half the strength. Perfect for the big days, the long days, and the days you actually want to remember.”
Available in 355mL cans (6 x 4 packs), Halfy comes in at 2.1% ABV and is now on shelves exclusively at Dan Murphy’s and BWS, with an RRP of $48 per case, currently on introductory promotion for $42.
