The 2024 World Whiskies Awards winners have been announced in London across 23 categories, including single malt, bourbon, blended, rye, pot still and design.
While there are many familiar names in the mix, the winner of the World’s Best Single Malt has generated in a few headlines.
A single malt From England won the World’s Best Single Malt: The English Sherry Cask, from England’s oldest whisky distillery. (English whisky distilling is a relatively recent phenomenon, The English was established in 2006. The Scotch have been distilling whisky since 1494.)
The English said: “We are honoured and utterly thrilled to have been awarded ‘The World’s Best Single Malt Whisky’ for The English Sherry Cask in the 2024 World Whiskies Awards.
“Whilst one hopes to win an award, winning the big one is the realisation of our founder’s sole goal. The English Sherry Cask is a superb single malt whisky that fulfils our founder’s single ambition when building The English Distillery – to make world-class whisky. This is a super way to celebrate our 18th year of whisky distilling and a testament to our distillers work.
“As the English Whisky category continues to grow with pace, this award is another milestone for our whisky industry.
“The English sherry cask is one for your whisky shelf.”
