Iconic Australian fortified wine Galway Pipe Bourbon Barrel Tawny 10 YO has been named Best Wine from Australia at the Frankfurt International Trophy 2024.
The Frankfurt International Trophy is one of the most critical wine, beer, and spirits competitions globally, known for its rigorous standards and diverse panel of international tasters, including oenologists, sommeliers and wine enthusiasts.
With over 2550 wines tasted from nearly 30 countries, Galway Pipe also took out a Grand Gold award for its Grand Tawny 12 YO.
“These awards are a testament to our hard work and passion for creating fortified wines that are steeped in tradition and appeal to contemporary palates globally,” Galway Pipe Head Winemaker and Master Blender Chris Dix said.
“It’s an honour to be recognised on such a significant stage as the Frankfurt International Trophy.”
Galway Pipe is named after Sir Henry Lionel Galway, a notable governor of South Australia who was known for his discerning taste in fine fortified wines. Nestled in Langhorne Creek, South Australia, Galway Pipe is renowned for its intense, complex fortified wines. Made by Yalumba until the mid-90s, it is now independently owned.
“The Bourbon Barrel Tawny 10 YO and Grand Tawny 12 YO are products of meticulous care and craftsmanship,” said Dix.
“These awards reflect the passion and hard work our team pours into every phase of production, ensuring that each vintage meets and exceeds the high standards we set for ourselves. This approach has not only shaped our current offerings but will also guide us as we craft the next generation of exceptional wines.”
Galway Pipe is available nationally at retailers across the country, including BWS, Dan Murphy’s, Liquorland and First Choice.
