RHUBI supports women with 2024 cocktail competition

After a successful 2023 ‘Just add RHUBI’ cocktail competition, the bartender-founded aperitif is back in 2024 with more focused mission.

Partnering with Perth-based non-for-profit for women in hospitality Mix Haus, RHUBI is calling on female bartenders across Australia to Just Add RHUBI in their cocktail making.

By focusing on the talented women in the Australian scene, RHUBI and Mix Haus are aiming to raise profiles and ultimately drive positive cultural change in the industry.

The live final will raise funds for Mix Haus projects such as training, workshops and hospitality progress pathways for women.

Entrants are asked to make a drink using RHUBI as the main ingredient, share the cocktail on socials and offer it in-venue. Those keen to experiment with the rhubarb aperitif, and swap it into cocktails, can be based anywhere in the country.

Four finalists will be announced in November and flown to Sydney for the all-female bartender takeover, which will determine the winner. The event will be held at female-owned Burrow Bar on 25 November and all proceeds raised on the night will be donated to Mix Haus.

“It’s so crucial that brands support diversity in our industry,” said Mix Haus co-founder Shirley Yeung.

“We have been working with RHUBI on this campaign since last year, and these kinds of initiatives are more important now than ever. We chose to work with RHUBI as it’s a female-run brand, and we’re excited to create this new platform to highlight the amazing and talented women in our industry. If we can do that alongside raising money for on-the-ground activity, then that ultimately achieves our goals.”

RHUBI is founded and made in Australia. It’s inspired by French Mistelle and uses the French national icon La Semeuse on each bottle’s cap. The heroic female figure is a symbol of freedom and the ‘sower of new ideas’.

“We love seeing RHUBI’s versatility in cocktails, but this year we’re even more excited to use this platform to support women in hospitality and open up those dialogues about what it means to be female and working in this industry.” said RHUBI Director Linn Philips-Johansson.
