Furphy brings back the only pub in The Birdcage

The Furphy Marquee is returning to the Birdcage as the official beer partner of the 2024 Melbourne Cup Carnival.

In its seventh year, Furphy will be pouring pints and welcoming back one of Australia’s most celebrated sporting events with a distinctive trackside experience that offers unparalleled views of the race that stops the nation.

The marquee combines the brand’s rich heritage with the cheeky, playful spirit that Australians know and love. Guests can stroll down memory lane with framed tributes paying tribute to some iconic Victorian Furphy pubs. At the top of the stairs, a timeline pays homage to the Furphy family’s legacy, showcasing its journey from the 1800s to today.

In collaboration with MAAKE.Experiences, MADE.Experiences, and Spacecube, Furphy has partnered with local Australian businesses to design and construct the two-story marquee.

The only Victorian-style pub in the Birdcage, the Furphy marquee provides entertainment and a fully covered balcony for race viewing.

Lion National Sponsorship & Events Leader Kelly McLoughlin said: “We are proud to provide a world class experience within our Furphy marquee. The Melbourne Cup Carnival is a great opportunity for us to thank our customers for their support, and connect over a delicious Furphy or two.”

Throughout the Melbourne Cup Carnival, the Furphy Marquee will feature a line-up of DJs, trumpet players and singers.

Guests can enjoy the Furphy Refreshing Ale in tap and bottle, which will be joined by Lion’s newest products XXXX Ultra Zero Carb and Tooheys Ultra Zero Carb. There will also be Guinness served on tap for the first time along with other beer beverages across Lion’s portfolio.

The menu will offer a variety of savoury and sweet bites, including ham and cheese croque monsieur, prawn toast and beer battered whiting.

Outside of the Birdcage racegoers can pick up a Furphy, at The Park, known as The Furphy Pub in The Park, which will serve tap beer. Patrons can enjoy a beer in the beer garden and watch all the track action on the big screen which marks the first time a stand alone Furphy bar has been in this area.
