Inner West Ale Trail launches country festival

Over three weekends in May, the Inner West Ale Trail is hosting Inner West Country, a celebration of music, food and community.

The celebration will transforms the Trail into a free, open-door showcase of the Inner West’s creative spirit and diverse culture.

Running across 10–11 May, 17–18 May and 24–25 May, Inner West Country will feature country, hip hop, rockabilly, reggae and retro anthems, alongside food, drink and family-friendly experiences.

Expect smoked meat feasts, laneway dance parties, vinyl markets, First Nations storytelling and even cowboy hat crafting.

The festivities begin on Saturday 10 May, with a fiery start at Pickled Monkey Brewing Co, where chilli-heads can test their limits in a blazing hot chilli-eating contest hosted by Burnin’ Bites Down Under.

Meanwhile, Sauce Brewing Co. will take the party to the dance floor with a Dance Country Party on Mother’s Day, Sunday 11 May, featuring genre-blending trailblazer DJ Levins and special guest DJs. From 4-8pm, the Marrickville beer garden transforms into a country-disco dancehall.

Over in Newtown, Young Henrys will host a day of community and culture on Saturday, 17 May, as they team up with First Nations creative collective Awesome Black for Mindjiigari Ngurru – From Sky to Country, bringing together live music, cultural dance, basket weaving and storytelling.

Awesome Black Creative Lead Travis De Vries said: “This event is about grounding First Nations culture in the everyday, not just in ceremony but in joy, sound and, most importantly, beer gardens. We’re building a 24-hour economy that doesn’t erase us, but makes space for us, in our complexity, humour, power and beauty.”

A week later, the creative revelry rolls into Camperdown for the Hoedown Throwdown Laneway Party at Wayward Brewing Co., where the team is shutting down their laneway on Saturday, 24 May for a boot scootin’ bash with live bands, shanty singalongs and dancing into the night. True to Inner West form, expect big fun, no pretence, and plenty of beer on tap.

That same day at Future Brewing, acclaimed Inner West chef Mitch Orr will join forces with World’s Best BBQ pitmaster Jo Chewy for an epic Country Cookout from 2-8pm.

Across the three weekends, the Trail will also host a vibrant mix of events such as a Reggae Nation takeover by Sunday Dub Club at Batch Brewing, Vinyl DJs at The Grifter, Rockabilly Picnic vibes at Willie the Boatman and Hip Hop &
Hops at Philter Brewing.

The Bob Hawke Beer & Leisure Centre is going full retro with Awesome 80s, complete with DJs spinning classics, Mixtape will host a night of live music at Rockin’ Rodeo Concert, while Wildflower Brewing & Blending will host a Texan BBQ and live music from local country legend Charlie Finn.

At Chuck & Sons’ Saddle Up Sunday (18 May), kids can craft their own cowboy hats before Marrickville’s own Saddle Club leads line dancing and DJs wrap the evening in a glittery country spin.

All of this is happening alongside the breweries’ usual offerings, over 320 fresh, locally brewed beers, family-friendly venues, rooftop bars, underground taprooms, live gigs, food trucks and rotating menus that showcase everything from prawn toast and amber ale lamb ribs to wood-fired pizza and hand-pulled brisket.
