Ron Santiago de Cuba is celebrating its Australian launch with a pop-up rum bar at Sydney’s La Farmacia, and Drinks Digest dropped in for a Mojito or two.
Distilled in Cuba for more than 150 years, Ron Santiago de Cuba is aged under the Caribbean sun in American oak barrels. The result is a smooth, elegant spirit that delivers notes of honey, tropical fruit and vanilla, making it ideal for both sipping and mixing in cocktails.
La Farmacia serves authentic Latin street food in an eclectic, vibrant setting on Stanley Street in inner-city Darlinghurst.
To mark its arrival in Australia, Ron Santiago de Cuba rum is hosting immersive experiences La Farmacia every Friday and Saturday night in May.
Expect Cuban-inspired cocktails, street snacks, music and a bar transformed into a slice of Havana. Featured drinks include a keenly priced Cuba Libre ($10), Mojito ($15) and Piña Colada ($12).
We love a Mojito and Ron Santiago de Cuba rum makes a fabulous one, complemented by a perfect balance of flavours, including fresh mint, lime and just the right touch of sweetness.
The friendly bar staff also served a delicious Tropical Pina with Ron de Santiago de Cuba rum, tequila, coco lopez, pineapple and fresh lime.
As for the street food, we couldn’t go past the tacos on the menu, made with soft corn or flour tortillas. Among the stand-outs were the tacos with cauliflower, pico de gallo and chipotle mayo ($8 each) and the beer-battered barramundi tacos with slaw and habanero salsa ($11 each).
Our wonderful server also recommended trying the Al Pastor Tacos and we’re very glad we took her advice.
The tacos featured adobo-spiced pork shoulder roasted on a spit and served with pineapple and red onion. The result was a heavenly taste explosion of smoky, spicy flavour.
La Farmacia is located at 81 Stanley St, Darlinghurst, Sydney.
Ron Santiago de Cuba rum is rolling out nationally at premium retailers, with exclusive on-premises partnerships and high-energy Cuban experiences to come across major cities through 2025.
