Summer’s hottest new spritz

Move aside limoncello spritz, there’s a new bottled sparkling beverage poised to be summer’s hottest drink: the Bellini spritz.

The wine innovators behind the hugely successful Zoncello Spritz were the first to the party with the innovation – relaunching their premixed Bellini, now dubbed ‘Bellina’, earlier this year.

The Zonzo Estate Bellini was Australia’s first-ever bottled one of its kind, combining locally sourced peach nectar and Zonzo Estate Prosecco, ready to be popped and poured.

When the new-look Bellina hit the shelves, the drinks industry immediately sat up and took notice after watching the exponential rise of Zonzo Estate’s bottled limoncello spritz – Zoncello Spritz – in the last 12 months.

Zoncello has been credited with putting the wine category back in growth and cracked the million-bottle sales mark in June 2024.

Among the other Aussie contenders now on shelf are Squealing Pig’s Squealini Fuzzy Peach, SOFI Spritz’s The Bellini and Tread Softly’s Natural Peach Prosecco Bellini.

Squealing Pig spokesperson Nick Powell said: “At Squealing Pig, we understand that today’s consumers want more than just a classic wine – they want to enhance their social gatherings with something that feels contemporary and exciting. We are committed to engaging those who typically reach for cocktails, offering them an alternative that captures the essence of summer fun and refreshment.”

Drinks Digest sampled Tread Softly’s Bellini and can confirm it is a delicious competitor in the bottled spritz stakes.

The spritz dethrones Champagne

One of the fastest growing cocktail categories in the American on premise over the last 12 months has been spritzes.

Earlier this year, CGA’s Cocktail Sales Tracker highlighted a significant move away from heavier and higher-alcohol cocktails towards more refreshing alternatives. It revealed the spritz has enjoyed a remarkable 30% increase in value velocity over the last 12 months—the highest of any of the top 30 cocktails in the US.

The trend has been backed up by data in the sixth annual Bacardi Cocktail Trends Report, which claims the spritz is overtaking Champagne as the drink of choice for socialising with friends.

According to the Bacardi report, the top 10 cocktails globally in 2025 are:

  1. Mojito
  2. Margarita
  3. Spritz
  4. Piña Colada
  5. Gin & Tonic
  6. Rum & Coke®
  7. Whisky & Coke®
  8. Dry Martini cocktail
  9. Vodka Lemonade
  10. Vodka Soda
