Benriach Single Malt Scotch Whisky has partnered with iconic Sydney venue The Grounds to create Australia’s first Scotch Cross Buns.
Crafted by The Grounds Bakery & Patisserie, the limited-edition Scotch Cross Buns feature currants and raisins that have been soaked in Benriach: The Original Ten whisky, topped off with a Benriach whisky glaze.
Available from 18 March to Monday 1 April, the Scotch Cross Buns can be ordered as a takeaway six-pack, or as a special dine-in dessert at The Grounds of Alexandria and The Grounds of the City venues.
Guests dining in can also order a ‘Scotch Cross Bun Pudding’ dessert launching on the menu, featuring a baked Scotch Cross Bun with dark chocolate chips, caramelised hazelnuts and hazelnut praline, served with a brown butter whisky caramel sauce, macadamia ice cream and a vanilla bean whipped chantilly.
To pair with the dessert, The Grounds will serve up a delicious Benriach Whisky Treacle cocktail, made with Benriach: The Original Ten, apple juice, bitters and sugar syrup.
The bespoke Benriach Easter cocktail menu will also include a Smoky Espresso Martini featuring Benriach: The Smoky Ten for $18, as well as a Benriach Highball featuring Benriach: The Twelve for $12.

The Grounds Executive Head Chef Paul McGrath said: “Crafting our Scotch Cross buns with Benriach single malt whisky has been a fun journey. But it’s not just about creating something fun and unique for Easter; it’s about honouring tradition while igniting taste buds with a quality, authentic experience. We’re thrilled to bring this fusion of flavours to our customers, adding a playful twist to a classic treat.”
Benriach Distillery Master Blender Dr Rachel Barrie said: “Benriach The Original Ten has been three cask matured in bourbon barrels, sherry casks and virgin oak, to create layers of luscious orchard fruit, sumptuous honeyed malt and toasted oak, all interwoven with a subtle trace of smoke. These sweet, fruit-laden flavours perfectly compliment the signature flavours of a hot cross bun.”
Adding to the festivities, Benriach will host a whisky tasting in The Lock In private dining room at The Grounds of Alexandria on Wednesday 27 March. The tasting will include a set menu featuring the ‘Scotch Cross Bun Pudding’ dessert and an exclusive first taste of a new Benriach product soon to launch in Australia.
