We have to admit we fell for a few of the drinks industry’s April Fool’s Day gags this year … and we really wish tomorrow’s threatened US tariffs were among them.
Donald Trump set April 2 as the date for reciprocal tariffs on a range of imports that could include wine, beer and spirits.
In his first address to a joint session of Congress since returning to the White House, Trump joked about the timing of the tariff imposition and said he was initially planning to enact the tariffs on April 1.
However, he decided to delay them by one day to avoid confusion.
“And so on April 2, I wanted to make it April 1, but I didn’t want to be accused of April Fool’s Day,” he said.
“That’s what that’s not just one day was cost us a lot of money, but we’re going to do it in April. I’m a very superstitious person.”
But that’s enough serious stuff. Since the world really needs a laugh right now, here are some actual April Fool’s Day jokes by drinks brands.

Journeyman Distillery has been known to cross new flavour frontiers, like with its beloved popcorn bourbon. On April 1 the organic distiller announced it was releasing a brand new way to experience ketcup – Last Feather Rye Ketchup Whiskey, bringing their housemade Featherbone Bourbon Ketchup and cherished Last Feather Rye Whiskey into one bottle.

Ryan Reynolds’ Aviation Gin announced: “Someone cooked here. The Macaroni Negroni, brought to you by Aviation American Gin’s Innovation Lab.”

Protein Works announced it would be shaking up the celebration game with its new product, Doms Proteinon – a luxurious, non-alcoholic, protein-infused champagne.
Protein Works Brand Director Anna Sward said: “The need for a celebratory drink with nutritional benefits has never been higher. In the past quarter alone, UK searches for “alcohol-free champagne” have surged by 147%, while searches for “protein champagne” have spiked by a staggering 580%. Clearly, the thirst for a high-protein bubbly is real and isn’t as far-fetched as it may seem.
“That’s why Protein Works has ‘created’ Doms Proteinon – for people who want to celebrate with added benefits. This gold-standard protein champagne is infused with clear whey protein, essential amino acids, and electrolytes, refined with a sparkling finish to offer a nutritious spin on celebration. Plus, since protein plays a key role in dopamine production, this drink delivers the same feel-good boost as a traditional toast, minus the hangover!
“At Protein Works, we love to challenge conventions and reimagine what’s possible in nutrition. ‘Doms Proteinon’ is our way of having a little fun while sparking a conversation about how we celebrate.
“As more people look for healthier and tastier everyday alternatives, we’re seeing a shift in how celebrations are evolving. ‘Doms Proteinon’ is a playful nod to that movement, proving that indulgence and nutrition can go hand in hand.
“Whether this is just an April Fools’ stunt or a glimpse into the future, one thing’s for certain: the development of functional beverages is fizzing with potential.”

Flaviar revealed it was “launching” a revolutionary way to enjoy spirits … without actually drinking them. It introduced the VaporSpirits™, Flaviar’s faux vape, available in three expressions:

“VaporSpirts do not contain nicotine or any addictive properties commonly found in traditional vapes,” Flaviar said.
“Developed by leading sensory experts, this innovation ensures a refined tasting experience while preserving the nuanced character of each spirit.”

Distributor Nip of Courage announced: “We’ve been working on a spirit that truly captures the essence of true blue Aussies. Introducing… ‘Treat Yourself a Round of Sausage’ our sausage sizzle flavoured gin! Inspired by the classic Bunnings Snag!

Venues also got in on the fun.

The Hamilton Station Hotel announced that while its ‘Live It Up’ Karaoke had been running for decades, but there had always been one major problem … “we simply have not heard Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” enough times”.
It promised this weekend would be the first ever “SWEET CAROLINE ONLY” edition of ‘Live It Up’ Karaoke.
“No other songs will be allowed all week, just Neil Diamond’s 1969 classic from 9pm until late,” the hotel said.

Meanwhile, The Duke of Clarence Hotel announced it was going vegan.
“After much deliberation (and one too many cucumber sandwiches), we’ve decided to go completely plant-based,” the venue said.
“That’s right – no more roasts, no more steak, and definitely no Yorkshire puds. From today, it’s lentil loaf and oat gravy all the way. We’ll also be replacing our cask ales with kombucha on tap.
“Cheers to gut health!”
SoCal announced it had transformed its terrace into an agave farm to save its customers a trip to Mexico.
The UK’s party bar chain The Cocktail Club asked “Have we completely lost the plot?”
Its Prawn Cocktail featured a double shot of pink gin, a good squeeze of mayonnaise, a dash of Worcestershire sauce, a spoonful of sweet chilli sauce and two healthy spoonful’s of prawn cocktail mix all added to a shaker alongside a sprinkling of paprika. This concoction was then shaken over ice and double strained into a coupe before being garnished with a lettuce leaf and a few extra prawns.
We’re still confused about this one …
Heineken has apparently introduced Smootheriser, its first-ever skincare product.

According to Heineken “what started as a joke was just too smooth not to make real”.
“While it makes its debut on April 1, The Heineken® Smootheriser is no April Fool’s joke. The product actually exists, blurring the line between parody and possibility,” Heineken announced.
“Infused with the same quality barley and hops that give Heineken® Silver its signature crisp taste, The Heineken® Smootheriser is exquisitely packaged with a premium formulation that is designed to hydrate and nourish the skin. Over 1000 limited-edition boxes are now available exclusively through select activations and giveaways.
“The Heineken® Smootheriser will launch in Taiwan and Cambodia, coinciding with Heineken® Silver’s official launch in the latter market.”
