Hard FIZZ teams up with Gold Coast Open

Queensland vodka maker Hard FIZZ is going back to its roots, teaming up with its local WSL surf event, the Gold Coast Open.

The brand is owned by Grammy nominated DJ and former professional surfer FISHER, while marketing manager, Joel Scott, was a founder of surfwear line The Mad Hueys in 2012. The event at Burleigh Heads surf break is also just steps from Hard FIZZ’s brewery and taproom.

This year’s Gold Coast Open, run by Surfing Queensland, has been upgraded to a WSL Qualifying Series (QS) 4000 event, with past winners including Mick Fanning, Julian Wilson, and Isabella Nichols.

Scott said: “Surfing is in our blood at Hard FIZZ with ‘Fish’ previously on tour, and I have a background with the Mad Hueys, so we’re stoked to get involved in the Gold Coast Open.

“We all grew up surfing Burleigh as kids, so it’s a full circle moment for a lot of our team – it’s literally our home break.

“It’s no secret that these events need corporate support as they’re not cheap to put on, but I think it’s important that local businesses back it in as we are the ones with a real heart and passion for the area.

“I can’t wait to see all the groms on the hill cheering on their heroes as that was me back in the day.”

Hard FIZZ will be available in the bars for the Gold Coast Open with 5000 cans expected to be sold.

“The Gold Coast has always been big supporters of us, so it’s great to give that support back,” Scott said.

“Our ethos from day one has always been: let the good times roll, so whether that’s at a gig or a surf contest or just a backyard BBQ, it’s about having fun.”
