Interactive Alcotraz bar to open in Brisbane

A new bar called Alcotraz is opening later this month in Brisbane – offering an immersive cocktail experience that’s already built a cult following in London, Sydney and Melbourne.

When the doors open on March 20, 2026 guests will be able to do a stint behind bars where contraband cocktails rule and crooked guards run the show.

Created by UK immersive hospitality group Inventive Productions in partnership with live-entertainment platform Fever, Alcotraz will be ‘process’ guests on arrival, issue them with an inmate number and orange jumpsuit to wear and usher them into a speakeasy-style cell block.

Inside, it’s part role-play, part cocktail bar designed to deliver a unique, immersive experience with a cast of guards, inmates and bootlegging accomplices steering the narrative while serving a menu of four cocktails (or mocktails, beer or wine).

The cocktails will include the vodka-based Crime of Passion, with passionfruit liqueur, strawberry purée, lime, cranberry and orange; and Conspiracy – a combination of premium mezcal, burnt coconut tequila, chocolate butter, pineapple and a hint of cinnamon.

Inventive Productions Director Sam Shearman said: “The venue, or set as we call it, looks incredible – and we’re sure Alcotraz will become one of Brisbane’s most Instagram-able and popular nights out.

“It will bring the global trend of immersive entertainment to Brisbane in a totally unique way. We’re taking it beyond just a themed bar fit out, to a full theatre style experience with costumes and actors helping to create something all-enveloping.

“The immersive entertainment market has seen huge growth across sports, music and concerts, and we’re excited to bring this world-class immersive experience to Brisbane for the first time.

“With the boom in true-crime culture and ‘dark tourism’ sites – with the de-commissioned Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary being one of the most popular in the world – we will offer a lighter take on the growing trend with our new experience.”

Less than a month after Alcotraz opens, the same team will debut the all-new Moonshine Saloon from April 10 – a Wild West-themed cocktail experience set during the American Prohibition.  It will be the first iteration of the Moonshine Saloon in Australia, and the first outpost outside of London.

Tickets start at $65 and include the performance and four drinks. Learn more here.
