C4C Packaging has officially opened its sustainable wine packaging facility in Western Australia at Nikola Estate, the former Houghton Winery — one of Australia’s most historic winemaking sites.
Production has started at the facility, with the first export shipment of wine packaged in aseptic cartons heading to Sweden.
C4C Packaging founder Hamoun Aria said the new facility was designed to help the wine industry respond to changing consumer expectations and global export opportunities.
“Wine hasn’t changed much in 300 years. The bottle is heavy, fragile and costly to ship, and it leaves a significant carbon footprint,” he said..
“But the way we live, travel, and drink has changed dramatically. At C4C Packaging, we believe it’s time to rethink how wine is packaged and how it reaches the world.”
C4C Packaging uses aseptic carton packaging technology supplied by Tetra Pak to provide lighter, lower-impact packaging formats that support more efficient transport and lower emissions.
Independent Life Cycle Assessment data published by Tetra Pak indicates that beverage cartons have one of the lowest carbon footprints among commonly used packaging formats in Australia, thanks to their high proportion of renewable material and lower resource use. These features make aseptic cartons an increasingly relevant choice for export markets seeking packaging solutions that support decarbonisation goals and enhance supply chain efficiency.
Tetra Pak Oceania Managing Director Boris Munster said: “It’s encouraging to see producers exploring new packaging formats that reflect evolving consumer expectations and growing demand for responsible material choices. We’re pleased that our packaging technology is helping enable C4C Packaging’s move into wine‑in‑carton, supporting high‑quality products in a format designed for convenience and lower‑impact distribution.”
The initial wines packaged at the facility include Terra Twist, C4C’s wine brand crafted for export markets and forward-thinking consumers.
Terra Twist will also be showcased internationally at Vinexpo Asia 2026 on the Wine Australia stand in Hong Kong from 26–28 May, introducing the brand and its packaging format to leading Asian importers and distributors.
