First in-store liquor aisle for Coles Local

In a first for Coles Local, its new store in Melbourne’s south-east features a liquor aisle, allowing customers to buy wine, beer and spirits as part of their regular shop.

Coles Local Glen Iris’ range has been curated for the local market with more than 800 products including chilled white, sparkling and rosé, international reds, beer, RTD packs and premium mixers.

The new store also offers an elevated shopping experience, featuring premium deli products, a hot bread warmer, gelato cones and a curated range of local goods.

Coles said the incorporation of a liquor aisle provides the convenience of a single checkout for customers seeking to pair alcoholic drinks with everything from dinner parties to wine and cheese nights

Business Category Manager Grace Knox said: “This store is a great example of how food and drink come together to create a genuine destination. The liquor offer is thoughtfully curated to complement the food proposition, making entertaining easier and more inspiring.”

Unlike overseas, Australian supermarkets – aside from ALDI – generally do not have liquor aisles in-store. Local licensing laws also currently prohibit ALDI from selling liquor in its Queensland and South Australian stores.
