Gage Roads Brewing Co has announced a five-year extension to its exclusive beer and cider supply agreement with Optus Stadium, through to the end of 2032.
Gage Roads was built by Western Australians, employs Western Australians and proudly showcasing WA beer to millions of people every year. Its enduring partnership with Optus Stadium has become a powerful example of WA backing WA, combining world-class fan experiences with meaningful support for local jobs, local industry and community organisations across the state.
The extension, awarded by stadium operator VenuesLive, underscores the value Gage Roads brings to Optus Stadium as a long-standing and integral partner, helping create memorable experiences for millions of fans and visitors each year. Through Derby days and finals fever, Test cricket, international football and the biggest concerts ever to come to Perth , more than 16.6 million beers and ciders have been poured at the stadium since the gates first opened in 2018.
Gage Roads first partnered with Optus Stadium in 2017. In the eight years since, group sales volume has grown from 12.8 million litres to 30.8 million litres; revenue has grown from $33.2 million to $127.2 million, and the team has grown from 55 full-time roles to 245.
Gage Roads Managing Director John Hoedemaker said: “We could not be prouder. Optus Stadium has been an incredible platform for Gage Roads, helping us showcase proudly Western Australian brands to millions of fans and visitors. As one of the country’s premier venues, it represents the very best of WA, and we’re honoured to continue playing a role in creating memorable experiences for fans.
“This partnership demonstrates the power of backing local, combining world-class venue experiences with a proudly Western Australian success story that continues to invest in WA’s future.”
Executive Director Strategy Aaron Heary said: “The stadium was a huge catalyst for our growth, it put our brands in the hands of hundreds of thousands of West Australians, each year delivering the exposure and scale to allow us to become one of Western Australia’s most recognised brands.
“Almost everything we’ve built since, our brands, our capacity, our venues, our national footprint is amplified by decision by the WA Government in 2017 to back a local brewer at the stadium.”
Gage Roads buys its malting barley from WA, benefiting local WA farmers and maltsters. Gage Roads sources packaging from local manufacturers, and keeps the brewery humming with WA transport operators, refrigeration specialists, electricians, fitters and trades.
Gage Roads also opened its flagship venue, Gage Roads Freo, on Fremantle’s Victoria Quay in 2021 — and has since welcomed 2.5 million visitors from across Perth, around Australia and around the world.
WA Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti said: “Gage Roads is an iconic Made in WA success story and I’m so pleased to support their extension as the official beer supplier at Optus Stadium.
“I’m sure more than a few Freo fans will enjoy Purple Reign this Thursday, it’s a great way to celebrate the Finals campaign and while showcasing another quality product made right here in WA.
“From travelling on WA-made trains and buses to enjoying a locally brewed beer at the game, fans are supporting local jobs and our Government is proud to do the same.”
Optus Stadium CEO Mike McKenna said: “Since opening in 2018, Gage Roads beers and Matso’s products have been a huge hit with fans attending events at Optus Stadium.
“Locals have enjoyed trying the ever-evolving range, while visitors to Western Australia have experienced a taste of our unique lifestyle through some of the State’s best-known local brands.
“We’re delighted to continue our partnership with Gage Roads and look forward to working together to keep bringing great Western Australian products and experiences to fans at Optus Stadium.”
