Tinnies takes out low-alcohol beer award

A beer sold exclusively at Liquorland, First Choice Liquor Market and Vintage Cellars – Tinnies Ultra Low Alcohol Hoppy Ale – has been awarded Country Winner for low alcohol Pale Ale at the World Beer Awards in the UK.

Tinnies Ultra-Low Alc Hoppy Ale was one of more than 2200 beers from more than 50 countries entered into this year’s awards and judges blind tasted and scored the entries across three rounds of judging.

Traditionally, all tastings would have been held in person, with judges gathering across the globe. This year proved to be a challenge. Instead of getting the judges to the beers, the beers now got to the judges. Black wrapped and send across the Europe, Asia, Canada and Brazil, our judges tasted the beers at home and connected for each session via Zoom.

The winners in the Pale Low Alcohol category were commended on creating delicious low-alcohol beers that did not sacrifice on taste.

“It’s exciting to see the new Tinnies Ultra Low Alcohol Hoppy Ale recognised at an international level only months after launch,” said Darren Blackhurst, Coles Liquor CEO.

“It’s a wonderful example of how Coles Liquor is working with local Australian brewers and suppliers to develop quality products that taste great to all Australians.

“This win backs up last year’s results where Tinnies Pale won the World Champion trophy at the World Beer awards, and really validates the great collaboration with Coles, and Brick Lane’s attention and dedication to quality,” he added.

Jon Seltin, head brewer at Brick Lane Brewing, who brew the Tinnies range exclusively for Coles Liquor, described Tinnies Ultra Low Alc was both fun and technically challenging collaboration.

“We’re very proud of the beer itself, and the World Beer Awards country champion is testament to the quality of the product and the efforts of the brewing, packaging and quality teams behind its creation.

“Rather than using a dealcoholisation process, we used special brewing techniques to create less alcohol in the first place – the result is a natural product full of flavour, low in calories, and very refreshing for when you’re craving a beer without the alcohol.”

Coles Liquor offers more than 50 low-alcohol and no-alcohol beers, including gluten free, low carb and organic varieties.

Tinnies Ultra Low Alc has low alcohol content of just 0.5 per cent and is priced at $12 per six-pack.

“Our low-alcohol products demonstrate how Coles Liquor is responding to global trends and increased consumer demand for healthier alcoholic alternatives that they can enjoy responsibly,” said Blackhurst.
