ACT’s Bentspoke Crankshaft has been voted best Australian craft beer in the GABS Hottest 100. Last year’s winner, Stone & Wood’s Pacific Ale placed second, while Queensland-based Balter’s XPA rounded off the podium in third position.
This year’s poll was once again hotly contested and is possibly the biggest people choice craft beer poll in the world, with a record of almost 40,000 people placing more nearly 200,000 votes.
Crankshaft finally took the top stop after coming in third place for three years in a row.
BentSpoke co-owner and head brewer Richard Watkins told the Canberra Times: “We really back ourselves on the quality of our beer and we can see that people really love the quality of our stuff here. It’s voted by the people who put their hard-earned money down and enjoyed the beer.”

Dan Andrews makes the Triple J Hottest 100
Mashd N Kutcher’s ‘Get On The Beers’ featuring Daniel Andrews made it to the other hotly contested Hottest 100 of the year at No.12.
The Brisbane duo’s song samples the now-iconic 2020 moment where Premier an Andrews told Victorians at a March press conference not to congregate and “get on the beers” after pubs had been shuttered due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“What’s clear is that now a politician has made the Hottest 100, this is probably going to be the last Hottest 100 – it’s no longer Hot,” Andrews said.
“I’m sorry to all the Gen-Xers out there who have to bid farewell to their most important annual cultural tradition.”
‘Get On The Beers’ has gone on to become part of the COVID era lexicon, with Andrews noting: “With our State at zero cases for the last few weeks, thanks to all the good work of both our contact tracing teams and every individual Victorian, I can now officially declare that it is time to get on the beers!”
