Australian distribution deal for Champagne Carbon

Innovative winemaker Champagne Carbon has announced an exclusive distribution partnership in Australia with Emperor Champagne.

Founder Alexandre Mea was set to take the reins of his family house, Champagne Devavry, when he decided to go out on his own.

Melding his passion for motor racing with his winemaking background, Mea aims to reinvent the world of Champagne.

After four years of experimentation with raw materials and grapes, Mea and his Carbon team had found the perfect balance of flowers, spices and brioche they needed to craft the cuvées. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes are fermented in small oak barrels, adding complexity and elegance to the range.

This innovative approach extends to the packaging of the bottles. Made with a carbon fibre wrap, they are the signature of this atypical house. By placing carbon at the centre of their winemaking, they allow this pure element to have an impact on the wine. The fine layer of carbon fibre interacts with the carbon dioxide present in the wine itself, an energy tension is created and the ageing of the wine is enhanced. Every bottle is handmade, which involves a 37-step artisanal production. Every one of these steps is crucial, and it takes a week and a staff of 30 people to make one Carbon bottle.

In 2013, the house released their first bottles and, since 2017, the label has been the official champagne partner of Formula 1, with stars such as Lewis Hamilton popping Carbon bottles on podiums around the world. In 2018, the house became the official partner of automotive brand Bugatti and launched a unique cuvée, celebrating the 110th anniversary of Bugatti’s founder, Ettore Bugatti.

Kyla Kirkpatrick (above) , Founder of Emperor Champagne said: “We are incredibly proud to be the partner of the Carbon Champagne house in Australia. What I love most about champagne is the constant innovation that winemakers look to execute, and with Carbon Champagne, they are introducing a new chapter of champagne making that provides a new and interesting tasting experience. With more Australians becoming interested in the genre, houses such as Carbon Champagne reach a new audience with its luxurious details and distinctive personality.”

Mea added: “It’s an exciting time for Carbon Champagne as we enter into the Australian market and be able to showcase and share our elegant range with current connoisseurs and new tasters. The Emperor Agency has a platform that can reach an array of audiences while keeping true to what Carbon Champagnes aims to achieve and without compromising the excellence of our offering.”

  • Champagne Carbon Brut
  • Champagne Carbon Rosé
  • Champagne Carbon Blanc de Blancs
