It’s great to see the drinks industry getting behind the vaccination push in Australia. The latest to jump on board is Hawke’s Brewing, which has launched a “Jab & Slab” promotion to encourage its fans to make the move.
Among other organisations launching initiatives to encourage vaccination are the Prince Alfred Hotel in Port Melbourne, which announced it would offer a free beer to anyone who got the COVID-19 vaccination at a nearby Town Hall vaccination centre; and Lion, which announced last week that it is joining forces with Marrickville craft brewer Batch Brewing Co (below) to produce a special limited-edition “Freedom Day” beer to celebrate the day NSW meets its vaccine threshold.

Meanwhile, over in Perth, The Windsor Hotel, on Mill Point Road, South Perth, announced a few weeks ago that anyone who provides same-day proof they’ve had the jab is entitled to a free pint of Ogden’s Brewery beer between midday and 6pm.
Hawke’s Brewing said: “Nearly half of the country is in lockdown, hundreds of Australians are in hospital, home-schooling parents are going out of their minds, and small businesses like ours (and in particular our hospo mates) are fighting to keep their heads above water.
“Dunno, getting the nation vaccinated feels like a race to us. But with our vaccination rates needing a kick up the arse, it’s clear that it’s now up to us, the people, to roll our sleeves up and come to our own rescue. Introducing the Hawke’s ‘Jab & Slab’ roll out. Our contribution to moving the needle towards a life with less lockdowns and more of what makes living in Australia so bloody good.
”To get things rolling, we’ve put aside 250 slabs of Hawke’s Lager to say cheers to the first 250 living in Greater Sydney who share proof of their first vaccination with us.”
