One of the most beloved whiskies in the United States and a cult favourite in the industry, Four Roses, has arrived on Australian shores.
Four Roses was established in 1888 in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, by Paul Jones Jr, who was famously known as ‘The
Romantic Founder’ for naming the brand after his favourite flowers.
Jones Jr fell head over heels in love with a Southern belle and sent a heartfelt proposal to her. The woman said that if she agreed to the proposal, she’d wear a corsage of roses to an upcoming grand ball. She arrived with a corsage of four red roses. And the rest, as they say, is history …
The distillery went on to survive Prohibition and two World Wars. During the Prohibition era, Four Roses was one of just six distilleries in the US that was allowed to keep operating for ‘medicinal’ purposes … with any luck, patients could be
prescribed a bottle of bourbon by doctor or pharmacist.
Today Master Distiller Brent Elliot is at the helm of the distillery in Lawrenceburg, formulating Four Roses’ 10 distinct Bourbon recipes and hand-selecting barrels for the award-winning bottlings the brand is known for.
The distillery combines two mashbills with five proprietary yeast strains to distill and age its 10 distinct bourbon recipes, each with its own unique flavour profile.
This past year alone, the distillery has received 46 awards, including two Double Platinum medals, eight Double Gold medals and 16 Gold medals from esteemed competitions such as the American Whiskey Masters and Whiskies of the World.

The signature Four Roses Bourbon, the first expression to arrive in Australia, is a mellow Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and a versatile option for crafting cocktails. It has received countless awards, including Gold at the Whiskies of the World Competition 2022.
Four Roses Bourbon’s Australian launch represents a significant milestone in the brand’s ongoing global expansion. Vanguard Luxury Brands is looking to bring other expressions and new innovations here in the coming years.
