Bar hopping: Primi Italian

Drinks Digest headed to Primi Italian recently for the launch of its bar and a newly arrived Italian wine range called Casale Del Giglio.

It was a delicious combination.

Primi Italian, which is part of Club York and located on Clarence Street in Sydney CBD, won the ClubNSW Perfect Plate Award in the Eastern Metropolitan Division for its signature dish: Blue Swimmer Crab Handmade Ravioli.

Casale del Giglio was founded in 1967 by Dr Berardino Santarelli, a native of the Apennine hill town of Amatrice. The estate lies between the towns of Aprilia and Latina in the Agro Pontino valley, some 50km south of Rome. It is home to award winning wines including its Mater Matuta, which took home Silver at the 2023 Decanter Awards and Gold in The Wine Hunter 2023 Awards.

The double celebration was held on a Monday night and the restaurant and bar were packed with happy diners.

“Club York engaged a cutting-edge designer – Loop Creative – to create a fantastic space,” explained CEO Angus Rimmer.

“The club has also engaged Paynter Dixon as the club’s construction manager – they have completed successful projects with the club in the past, along with many others in the club industry to the highest quality of workmanship.

“It is envisaged that the project works will take place in several stages with the first stage the construction of a new bar.”

Alongside the impressive wine selection we sampled an array of flavour-filled dishes, with a highlight being the chef’s special of spaghetti with mud crab.

Casale del Giglio wines are available in Australia through Euro Concepts.
