Freemantle-based Running with Thieves Brewery & Distillery has avoided closing its doors after being acquired by the Simm Group of Companies.
Simm Group of Companies Founder Michael Simm and business partners Toby Hagan and Matt Cruden have always been shareholders of the Running with Thieves enterprise in a silent capacity.
Starting out in Sydney in 2013 as a streetwear and lifestyle brand, Running with Thieves opened a brewery and distillery in 2018 in South Fremantle.
When the brewery – like many other craft beer producers – faced hardship in 2023, Simm Group of Companies decided to step into a more permanent position in the company.
“I was impressed by the brand, the products and the team working hard behind the scenes,” Simm said.
“From Head Brewer and Distiller Paul Gasmier through to Jeff Cooper and Erin Leece in Sales and Matt Pashley in Logistics, the whole team worked together to make it out with their heads held high.”
With development and expansion plans for 2024 well underway, Running with Thieves has appointed new General Manager and hospitality veteran Keith Ashley to the team along with Head Chef Suman Rayamajhi – former Head Chef at Little Creatures in Fremantle.
Additionally, a new group of brand ambassadors have been recruited to take on the road for events such as festivals and conventions to showcase the Running with Thieves range.
Head Brewer & Distiller Paul Gasmier has years of experience in the industry at leading breweries such as Asahi Australia and Gage Roads. The Running with Thieves core range includes the Hazy Pale Ale, Ginger Beer, XPA, Session Ale, Thieves Lager and West Coast IPA combined with the wider RTD portfolio that includes the brewery’s best-selling Grapefruit Gin and Soda and Selzer range.
Gasmier is also responsible for the evolving range of spirits on offer including gin, vodka and whiskey.
“The brewery team is excited for the future with Running with Thieves, we have a very dedicated and close-knit team, and we get a thrill out of experimenting and developing new products as well as perfecting our core range,” Gasmier said.
