Underground Spirits Australia is taking over World Caramel Day and turning it into World Caramel Espresso Martini Day.

World Caramel Day is celebrated on 5 April and celebrates the invention of caramel in the 18th century. The delicious, gooey substance made with butter, brown and white sugar, milk or cream and vanilla is one of the world’s most popular sweet flavours.

The Canberra-based distillery has teamed up with Sydney’s leading coffee roaster Pablo & Rusty’s to create a decadent Caramel Espresso Martini Kit. The kit retails for $95 and includes a 700ml bottle of Underground Spirits’ Vodka with Caramel and a 500ml Pablo & Rusty’s Pioneer Coffee Concentrate.

Five steps to heaven

STEP 1: Chill your cocktail glass in the fridge – the cooler the better when mixing martinis.

STEP 2: Half fill your cocktail shaker with ice.

STEP 3: Measure out 50ml of Pablo & Rusty’s coffee concentrate and 50ml of Underground Spirits Caramel Vodka into the shaker.

STEP 4: Shake it hard for around 20–30 seconds to combine the flavours, chill and create the perfect consistency. Strain the contents into your chilled glass with a perfect layer of froth.

STEP 5: Garnish with three coffee beans.
