The Whisky List brings Danish whisky Stauning to Australia

The Whisky List is bringing Stauning Whisky to Australia, making the Danish distillery’s award-winning whiskies available locally for the first time.

Stauning’s launch into the Australian market will coincide with a tour from one of co-founders, Alex Hojrup Munch, across a series of consumer and trade events in Sydney and Melbourne during April.

Stauning will also partner with Sydney’s Maybe Sammy Cocktail Festival, with its Like Minded Creatures takeover of the world-famous bar taking place on April 11.

Hojrup Munch said: “It’s always been an ambition of our team to bring Stauning to Australia since we started making our grain-to-glass Danish whisky. Australian drinkers already have such an affinity for quality, flavour and new-world
craftsmanship.

“Joining The Whisky List portfolio extends Stauning’s philosophy of collective collaboration far beyond our home in Denmark and to the wider world with partners who share our passion and vision for quality spirits.”

Stauning’s reputation Down Under has been steadily growing through a long-standing friendship with two of Australia’s most celebrated bartenders, Matt Whiley, aka. “The Fox ” owner of RE Bar, Sydney, and Luke Whearty, aka. “The Wookie”, co-founder of Byrdi, Melbourne. Alongside Alex Kratena, aka. “The Panda”, co-founder of Tayēr + Elementary, London.

The trio make up Like Minded Creatures (LMC), a bartender group set on breaking out of the daily mould. The global Stauning x LMC partnership kicked–off in 2023 with world-tour taking in some of the top bars across cities including London, New
York and Singapore, and now it is finally on route to launch in Australia.

Wiley and Whearty will also join Hojrup Munch for a Melbourne event on 14 April. In addition, Alex and the Stauning team will also be hosting a number of meetups and tastings throughout his visit in Sydney and Melbourne, including World of Whisky (Sydney), Whisky & Alement (Melbourne), The Oak Barrel (Sydney), and Caretaker Cottage (Melbourne).

Drinkers looking to explore Stauning’s distinctly Danish grain-to-glass whisky can buy via The Whisky List from May 2024. Stauning also will be at The Whisky Show Sydney (May 18) and Melbourne (6 July) as well as touring multiple whisky festivals of Australia throughout 2024 and beyond.

The Whisky List co-founder Oliver Maruda said: “We’re seeing a natural shift with consumers looking to connect with whisky brands who promote sustainability and traceability with natural ingredients and grain-to-glass production, both key themes
close to Stauning.

“Everything Stauning does is about that connection back to nature and really shines through with the quality and craft of the spirit. What we love best about this new world whisky is their love of bringing people together, be it at a social gathering at home or through their partnerships with world-renowned bartenders the globe over.

“We’re excited to witness the greats like Matt Whiley at RE Bar showcase how versatile Stauning can be at the upcoming Maybe Sammy Cocktail Festival.”
