Action-comedy film The Fall Guy has exploded onto movie screens around the globe, with Sydney’s hospitality scene playing a starring role alongside stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.
The film is based on The Fall Guy television series, which was created by Glen A. Larson and starred Lee Majors as a Hollywood stunt man who, to make ends meet, had a side hustle as a bounty hunter. The new production showcases Sydney’s diverse landscapes and venues to international audiences.
It was filmed in the city throughout late 2022 and early 2023.

The rooftop bar featured in the film is the Ivy – a local favourite for big nights out.
Destination NSW also suggests fans partake in Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s love for spicy margaritas – which feature throughout the film – at Centro 86, a new underground tequila bar in the CBD, or taste award-winning cocktails at Dean and Nancy on 22. Then finish up with a feast at one of the restaurants located around Jones Bay Wharf (you’ll spot this area in the film as Gosling hides on his boat from the bad guys).

Even heroes need their beauty sleep. Movie lovers can rest up like an A-lister at the Kimpton Margot, a CBD hotel with Art Deco touches and featured in the movie (ask Kevin for the fruit plate). It’s where Colt bumps into Blunt’s character Jody and Gail, played by Hannah Waddingham and also breaks down a door to discover a body.

Following filming the hotel has opened Harper Rooftop Bar that will be an additional drawcard for visitors. Located on level seven, it features a pool, bar and restaurant.

Sydney Opera House is also front and centre in the film, transformed into the backdrop for a sci-fi shoot.
Ausfilm CEO Kate Marks said it cannot be underestimated the benefits productions of this size bring “not only by driving tourism visitation thanks to the showcasing of Australia’s diverse locations, but also through the investment that productions of this scale deliver to Australia’s sound stages, our Australian-owned post, sound, music and VFX facilities, unit management companies, legal services, extras, cast and crew.”
