New Zealand single malt whisky distillery Thomson Whisky has partnered with The Whisky List (TWL) as its exclusive distributor for Australia.
The announcement follows Thomson Whisky’s recent success at the 2024 New Zealand Spirits Awards, where its Manuka Smoke Single Malt took home the New Zealand Innovation Trophy 2024.

Head Distiller Mathew Thomson (above) said: “It was a really big one for us, and honestly, we’re still buzzing.
“Maturing in ex-bourbon barrels and New Zealand wine casks and using native manuka wood for smokier characters, the distillery creates bold, dynamic whisky with a trailblazing spirit.”
Earlier this year, The Whisky Exchange UK praised the distillery’s “trailblazing spirit” and innovative approach, naming it the “Rising Star” producer 2024, a title awarded to just one producer globally each year, as the ‘next distillery to watch’.

Founded in 2009 by Mat Thomson and Rachael Thomson, the Thomson Whisky Distillery has grown to become a pioneering force in New Zealand’s whisky industry. Its whiskies, crafted with traditional methods and a bold approach, have received more 100 awards or medals worldwide over 15 years of consistent success.
“We’re thrilled to partner with The Whisky List to expand our footprint into Australia,” said Rachael Thomson.
“TWL’s expertise and passion for whisky, combined with their extensive network, make them the ideal partner to introduce Australian drinkers to the unique character of our New Zealand single malts.
“We look forward to seeing our whiskies on shelves, at whisky festivals, and most importantly in the hands of our
fellow whisky drinkers across Australia.”
The Whisky List co-founder Oliver Maruda said: “We are excited to welcome Thomson Whisky into our growing portfolio. Their commitment to craft, quality, and innovation is evident in every bottle.
“Australian whisky drinkers have shown a growing interest in exploring new and exciting single malts, and we’re
confident that Thomson Whisky’s range will resonate deeply with them.”

The partnership will see a variety of Thomson Whisky expressions (all bottled at 700ml) now available in Australia.
Australian drinkers will be able to find Thomson Whisky at select retailers, bars, and via The Whisky List’s online store. Whisky lovers can also experience it at major whisky events throughout Australia, with an official launch tasting planned with the upcoming Oak Barrel Whisky Fair (27-28 September 2024) and their annual Distillers Dinner on 26 September 2024, where a range of core expressions will be available for tasting.
Rachael Thomson will be in Sydney for the Oak Barrel Fair to officially launch Thomson Whisky in Australia.
