Mountain Culture saves beloved Sydney brewery venue

Award-winning Blue Mountains brewery Mountain Culture has taken over the Atomic Beer building just over a month after the Redfern brewpub closed its doors.

Owned by the Good Beer Company, Atomic was the latest brewery to fall victim to the cost-of-living crisis after four years in the business.

When it opens in November it will become the third Mountain Culture venue alongside the original brewpub in Katoomba and the Emu Plains production brewery and bar.

Founder Harriet McCready told The Crafty Pint that the brewery had been considering opening a venue in inner Sydney for some time.

“DJ and I have a tendency to leap before we really think,” she said.

“This presented itself and we thought, ‘What could go wrong?’ We tend to err on the side of something being a really good opportunity, so we throw as much effort in as we can to make it so.”

Owner Good Drinks Australia (GDA) announced in April that it had made the strategic decision to sell the Atomic Brewpub, along with the Atomic beer brand.

GDA’s portfolio consists of owned Australian brands Gage Roads, Matso’s, Alby, Rider Zero Carb and Hello Sunshine and international partner brands Millers, Coors, Magners, San Miguel and Rekorderlig.
