One of the world’s leading cocktail bars – Death & Co – is coming to Australia, opening venues in Brisbane and Melbourne.

Partnering with Australian Venue Co, they are promising to transform the cocktail scene “like you have never seen before”.

The globally acclaimed brand is known for its award-winning drinks and exceptional service and has bars in New York, Denver, Los Angeles and Washington DC.

AVC is currently hiring staff, with the successful venue managers being flown to the US for an intensive three-week training with the world’s best — learning directly from the pioneers behind Death & Co.

Death & Co opened its flagship Manhattan bar in 2006, with Punch describing its expansion as “the bar world’s only bona fide chain”.

“In its expansion, Death & Co. has managed a neat trick, something almost totally lost by the generational chains of yore: It has granted self-expression and opportunity to its new teams, city by city, and has created unique versions of its bars that aesthetically and culturally reflect their new homes,” Punch explains.

“Every location is like a little vignette,” founder David Kaplan adds, “a microexpression of each city. You can never capture it all in just one place. But you can romanticise it.”

“Bar staff at each location build unique drinks alongside Death & Co. classics,” Punch continues. “These bars find their footing across months and years, until they become part of the fabric of their cities.”

Death & Co locations based in Melbourne CBD and Brisbane are slated to open in spring 2025.
