Endeavour Group closes Oakridge winery restaurant

Endeavour Group is shutting down the restaurant at its Oakridge winery in Victoria’s Yarra Valley due to “changing market conditions”.

Wine club members were sent a note on Tuesday notifying them the restaurant would cease operations on June 30.

“In light of changing market conditions, and in order to focus on and expand our core winemaking and cellar door operations, we have made the difficult decision to close our restaurant,” the note said.

The cellar door will remain fully operational, as will winemaking operations and the brand.

Paragon Wine Estates (part of Endeavour Group) acquired the Yarra Valley-based Oakridge Wines in 2021.

The winery has won numerous awards, including being named Champion Victorian Winery at the 2022 Melbourne Royal Wine Awards, while the 2025 Halliday Wine Companion Awards named Oakridge 864 Drive Block Funder & Diamond Vineyard Chardonnay 2022 as Australia’s Wine of the Year

The closure follows Endeavour Group shutting cellar door operations at Shingleback Wines in the McLaren Vale region in South Australia.

Endeavour Group saw its retail sales fall by 1.5% to $5.5 billion in the first half of FY25, during what it described as “challenging macro economic conditions”.

The Board of Endeavour Group announced at the end of April that ex-Virgin Australia head Jayne Hrdlicka would become its new Managing Director and CEO. Hrdlicka will start on 1 January 2026.

The company’s largest and most outspoken shareholder, Bruce Mathieson, has thrown his support behind Hrdlicka.

“We’ve worked with Jane before when she was at Woolies,” Mathieson told the AFR.

“Hopefully, Jayne can straighten it right up. She’s got amazing assets to do it, and I’m sure it’ll go an awful lot better under her guidance than what was done beforehand.”
