Wynns Coonawarra announces annual luxury release

Treasury Wine Estates has launched its eagerly awaited annual luxury release from Wynns Coonawarra Estate.

Every year, Wynns winemakers Sue Hodder, Sarah Pidgeon and Chris Plummer, together with viticulturist Ben Harris, develop and culture an annual collection of wines for the estate’s annual release day on the first Wednesday in June – now affectionally referred to as ‘Wynnsday’.

This year the collection includes two brand new, never seen before releases – including a limited edition – as well as
an evolution in brand design.

The selection of wines aims to represent the very best of that vintage from the Terra Rossa soils from the estate’s vineyards.

Hodder said: “With the longest established vineyards in the Coonawarra region, Wynns today is not only one of the world’s finest terroirs, it also presents one of the world’s preeminent winemaking and viticultural teams, which is why this collection of premium wines truly brings together the rich, distinctive flavours of the region, with the artistry of winemaking.

“This year, we are very excited to showcase three distinct vintages as well as introduce two new wines. After decades of experience and experimentation with these varieties, we’re thrilled to finally bottle these wines, which are the new modern classics, each with its own Wynns story.”

The new design direction honours the heritage of Wynns. The reimagined 2025 Wynnsday Collection includes five medium-bodied red wines as well as a white wine, that can be consumed young or successfully cellared.

They include:

Wynns Michael Shiraz 2022 (RRP $150) – Wynns Coonawarra Estate’s best-of-vintage Shiraz. Named after David Wynn’s young
son, the fruit used for this wine comes from the best vineyard sites in Coonawarra and is only made in years when the best quality fruit is available.

Wynns Single Vineyard Childs Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 (RRP $80): Each vintage, Wynns selects a premium parcel from a single vineyard to bottle separately. In 2022, the Childs Vineyard on V&A Lane stood out with distinction. Planted in 1969, the Childs Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a prime Terra Rossa site.

Wynns Single Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2024 (RRP $80): Sourced from the McKillop Vineyard in the northern part of Coonawarra, the 2024 vintage marks the first release of a straight-varietal, limited edition, Cabernet Franc.

Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 (RRP $45): First produced in 1954, the wine comes from only
the top quality 20 to 25% of Cabernet Sauvignon fruit grown in the estate’s terra rossa vineyards.

Wynns Black Label Messenger Chardonnay 2024 (RRP $45): 2024 marks the inaugural release of a Black Label Messenger Chardonnay. The Messenger Vineyard, situated in the southern part of Coonawarra’s Terra Rossa strip, was first planted with Chardonnay in 1993. The 2024 vintage benefited from a mild to warm, dry harvest period and lower yields, creating ideal conditions for Coonawarra Chardonnay.

The 2025 Wynnsday Collection is available from 4 June 2025 from http://www.wynns.com and fine wine retailers across Australia. Wynns’ John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 will be available in Australia from September onwards as well as on La Place.
