Who knew Dolly Parton was a Martini fan? And you won’t believe the twist she puts on the classic cocktail … adding tea and pickled veggie juice.
It’s called a Dirt Road Martini and it’s taken social media by storm.
Dolly uses the brine from an Italian pickled vegetable relish called Giardiniera in her Martini recipe, which sounds exotic, but is available in Australia at Woolworths and other suppliers.
She shared her unique twist on a classic Martini in her New York Times bestselling cookbook Good Lookin’ Cookin’: A Year of Meals, which she wrote with her sister Rachel Parton George.
The result will delight tea fans, as the Martini has a very pronounced iced tea flavour with the acidity of the giardiniera brine complementing the bitterness of the tea, creating a unique take on a dirty Martini.
Here’s how to make a Dolly Parton Dirt Road, which was featured on the cover of All Recipes magazine (read the accompanying interview with Dolly here) …

Dirt Road Martini
- 60ml vodka
- 60ml unsweetened tea
- 7ml brine from a jar giardiniera
- Spanish Queen martini olives (pitted or stuffed), for garnish
- Vegetable pieces from giardiniera, for garnish
METHOD: Combine vodka, tea, and brine in an ice-filled mixing glass; stir well to chill. Fill a lowball or rocks glass with ice. Strain martini over ice. Garnish with olives and vegetable pieces.
