New Zealand’s award-winning Scapegrace Distilling Co. has established a dedicated sales team to accelerate its growth in Australia.
Hailing from New Zealand’s Central Otago region, Scapegrace’s portfolio spans single malt whisky, gin, vodka, and RTDs.
The distillery has announced a new direct-to-market approach that will see it employ an Australian sales team to grow new business across all states from August 1.
Co-Founder Daniel McLaughlin said the launch of Scapegrace’s new $27 million distillery in 2024 had allowed for an increase in production, making the time is right for the brand to grow its presence in Australia.
“Australia is a key market for Scapegrace. There are natural synergies between New Zealand and Australia when it comes to taste, culture, and drinking occasions, and we know there’s the opportunity for us to strengthen our offering there,” McLaughlin said.
“We’ll be putting a greater focus on Australia with increased investment in retail, on-premise, and brand building. Bringing distribution in-house will also give us more control and the ability to scale quickly.”
Scapegrace has earned a growing list of international accolades. In 2025, its Vanguard Single Malt Whisky won gold at the World Whisky Awards, while Anthem Single Malt Whisky was awarded a gold medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC). Scapegrace Gin has previously been named World’s Best London Dry Gin at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in London.
“We’re proud to represent the best of New Zealand distilling with our team using glacial water, locally grown ingredients, and a unique climate located on the 45th Parallel to craft spirits with exceptional depth of flavour,” said McLaughlin.
“We have a strong existing footprint in Australia and we’re excited to deepen relationships with retailers and customers, and to expand the reach of our award-winning spirits.”
