Morris unveils first-ever single barrel whisky release

Morris of Rutherglen has announced the inaugural release of its Morris Family Durif Single Barrel Whisky.

Bottled in extremely limited quantities – only 258 bottles exist – from just one barrel, it has been crafted to capture the unique terroir of Rutherglen, in the regional North-East of Victoria.

The barrel was filled on a crisp winter Thursday – 14 of June 2018. Since then, time has allowed the natural elements of the Durif barrel to shape the unique flavour profile, ensuring a whisky that is full of character and complexity.

Head Distiller Darren Peck and sixth generation family Chief Winemaker Madden Morris, hand-selected the individual Durif barrel used for aging the whisky from the Morris family cellar, selecting it for its exceptional quality and expression of unique flavour.

The Durif Single Barrel captures the structure and complexity of Durif, showcasing intense flavours of dried fruits and the richness of dark chocolate crème.

First planted in Rutherglen in 1920 and championed by Mick Morris in 1954 as a dry red table wine, Durif has become a Morris icon – renowned for its rich, generous flavours, firm tannin structure and exceptional aging potential.

Morris said: “This Single Barrel release has been crafted as a tribute to Rutherglen’s terroir and celebrates the natural resources we’re so fortunate to have on our doorstep.

“Every bottle we craft reflects a true sense of place, coupled with the dedication and passion of our team, and we’re proud to share this exceptional new whisky that captures the very essence of Rutherglen.”

The Morris Family Durif Single Barrel Australian Single Malt Whisky is available online only via Morris of Rutherglen with an RRP of $298. Every bottle is individually numbered, hand-labelled and signed by Morris’ Head Distiller, ensuring its authenticity.
