Barossa winery Krondorf has unveiled the 2022 vintage releases of its two Icon wines: the 121 Settlers Shiraz and the King’s Mantle Shiraz, with the latter returning for the first time since 2019.
The 121 Settlers Shiraz honours the pioneers who founded the Krondorf village in 1847, while King’s Mantle takes its name from the ceremonial robe of the Crown, symbolising authority, continuity and inheritance.

Drawn from rare, carefully selected old vines, both wines have been crafted by Chief Winemaker Tim Heath (above).
“The 2022 vintage in the Barossa produced Shiraz of real elegance and structure, with a depth and length of flavour that speaks to both site and season,” Heath said.
“Healthy soil moisture following strong winter rainfall in 2021 provided a solid foundation for the growing season, and despite some challenges around flowering, the warm, dry summer allowed for a long, even ripening period.
“The resulting wines show clarity, balance and poise, making 2022 an excellent year for premium Shiraz.”
The slow and steady ripening period allowed for excellent acid retention, a long tannin ripening window and a harvest that was roughly two weeks later than typical seasons.
In the cellar, both expressions are crafted with a minimalistic approach, allowing the character of the vineyard to shine. Juice is partially gravity-flowed, with gentle pigeage to extract tannins and colour, before ageing in a combination of new and second-use French oak for 16–18 months.
Krondorf’s 121 Settlers Shiraz 2022 (RRP $109.99) and King’s Mantle Shiraz 2022 (RRP $149.99) are available at select Dan Murphy’s stores and online.
