The hottest trend in drinks: swicy cocktails

The culinary trend of “swicy”— pairing sweet elements such as honey and maple with the heat of chillies or hot sauce—has crossed over into mixology.

Monin has tipped ‘exotic’ flavours and ‘swicy’ drinks among the trends that could shape cocktail choices during the European summer, with the balanced, complex flavour profile predicted to head Down Under.

The French syrup producer launched a Hot Honey variant in the UK market earlier this year for bartenders and at-home mixologists keen to create drinks ranging from zesty margaritas to deliciously spiced lemonades.

Monin beverage expert Tony Kousoulou said: “We know from our Monin S/S 2026 Drinks Trends Report that consumers are increasingly drawn to drinks that feel both indulgent and exciting. The rise of ‘swicy’ flavours shows a genuine appetite for bold, taste experiences. Monin Hot Honey syrup delivers an enticing flavour profile that works beautifully across cocktails and simple serves alike.”

Proof Drinks has described hot honey as the UK’s fastest-growing flavour trend. It has worked with Cazcabel Tequila to create three signature hot honey serves— Hot Honey Margarita, Hot Honey Paloma and Hot Honey Shot—designed to help operators capitalise on the trend and satisfy the growing wave of consumers who want more heat, more flavour and more fun in their glass.

“The numbers speak for themselves, #hothoney mentions on UK hospitality menus are up 38% in the past year, Google searches have skyrocketed by up to 5000%, and the TikTok buzz has racked up over 912 million hashtag views,” Proof Drinks said.

“Sweet and spicy isn’t just a moment, it’s a full-blown movement, and Cazcabel Honey Tequila is right at the heart of it.”
