Aussie bar named top 4 in the world

Melbourne bar Caretaker’s Cottage has been announced as a top four finalist for the 2026 Spirited Awards.

Since being established the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation (TOTCF) in 2007, the Spirited Awards has become one of the world’s most prestigious honours in the drinks industry, celebrating outstanding individuals, establishments, products, media and leaders who continue to inspire the global cocktail community.

TOTCF will announce the winners during the Tales of the Cocktail conference in New Orleans from 19-24 July 2026.

“The Spirited Awards continue to celebrate the individuals, establishments, brands, and storytellers who are shaping the future of the global drinks industry,” said Ryan Chetiyawardana, Spirited Awards International Chair.

“As we mark the 20th anniversary of the Spirited Awards, we are proud to recognize this year’s finalists and honorees whose creativity, dedication, and leadership have elevated cocktail culture around the world. Their contributions not only set new standards of excellence but also inspire the next generation of hospitality professionals.”

Caretaker’s Cottage is a top four finalist in the Best International Cocktail Bar category, competing against Bar Us (Bangkok, Thailand), Handshake Speakeasy (Mexico City, Mexico) and Satan’s Whiskers (London, UK).

“What a year for our little pub! To be shortlisted among some of the best and most creative venues from across the globe isn’t taken for granted by us,” Caretaker’s Cottage co-owner Rob Libecans said.

“We are surrounded by talented people in and around our bar and community. This is a huge recognition for their commitment and dedication for the last year.”

The only other Aussie nominee is in the Best New Cocktail or Bartending Book category, with The Madrusan Cocktail Companion by Michael Madrusan and Zara Madrusan in the running.

The Mandrusans are the founders of iconic Melbourne bars including The Everleigh and Bar Margaux.
