Following the international success of its Classic Shiraz 2023, Beresford Estate has released the next vintage of one of McLaren Vale’s most celebrated wines.

The release of Beresford’s Classic Shiraz 2024 follows a landmark year for the estate, after its predecessor was awarded the International Syrah Trophy and named World’s Best Shiraz at the 2026 International Wine Challenge. The response to the win was huge, with more than 5000 cartons sold in just 48 hours, causing the $25 Shiraz to sell out nationally.

And Head Winemaker Natalie Cleghorn promises that the 2024 vintage is even better than its predecessor.

“The 2024 benefited from a longer, more even ripening period, which allowed flavour and tannin development to happen gradually,” she said.

“That comes through in the finished wine: the fruit is bright and expressive, the tannins are fine and well formed, and there’s a natural balance through the palate.”

Cooler, more consistent conditions across the 2024 growing season encouraged gradual flavour development throughout the region, producing fruit with freshness, structure and excellent balance.

“When you have a long, even ripening period, the fruit develops beautifully,” Cleghorn said.

“There’s a real harmony to the wine. Everything feels integrated, from the fruit through to the tannin structure and length.”

Classic Shiraz 2024 is produced from what Cleghorn describes as a “tapestry of vineyards” across McLaren Vale, combining estate-grown fruit with parcels from long-standing grower partners throughout the region.

Fruit from the richer valley-floor vineyards contributes generosity and depth, while elevated sites influenced by cooling coastal breezes bring freshness and lift. Together, they create a layered expression that reflects the diversity of McLaren Vale rather than a single vineyard.

“Working with growers across different parts of McLaren Vale gives us an incredible palette to work with,” says Cleghorn.

“Every vineyard contributes something unique, and blending those parcels together allows us to create a wine with balance, complexity and a genuine sense of place.”

The resulting wine opens with vibrant aromas of red fruits that evolve into darker blue fruits, complemented by subtle oak complexity from maturation in French and American oak. The palate is fresh and expressive, carrying generous fruit through the mid-palate before finishing with fine-knit tannins and impressive length.
