Sydney venues are pouring their oldest wines by the glass

Throughout September some of Sydney’s most iconic wine bars and restaurants are unlocking their private cellars to offer their oldest wines by the glass.

Spearheaded by the Coravin Guide, Vintage By-The-Glass gives Sydneysiders the opportunity to drink once-in-a-lifetime wines that have been evolving for a decade or more, without the commitment of buying a full bottle.

The line-up of participating venues includes a mix of hatted restaurants, beloved neighbourhood wine bars, and iconic dining destinations.

  • Restaurant Hubert (CBD)
  • Fix Wine Bar + Restaurant (CBD)
  • The Charles Brasserie & Bar (CBD)
  • O Bar & Dining (CBD)
  • de Vine Food & Wine (CBD)
  • Oborozuki (Sydney)
  • Where’s Nick Wine Bar (Marrickville)
  • Apéritif & Co (Summer Hill)
  • Claret Club (Darlinghurst)
  • Cicci Food & Wine (Balmain)
  • Jonah’s Restaurant & Boutique Hotel (Palm Beach)
  • Kipling’s Garage Bar (Turramurra)

All venues will have a special by-the-glass menu devoted to exceptional wines 10 years or older. Show-stopping pours that Sydneysiders should look out for include

  • 2016 Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne (Pouring at O Bar and Dining)
  • 2015 Château d’Yquem Sauternes (Pouring at Restaurant Hubert)
  • 2010 Château Grand Mayne, Grand Cru Classé, Saint-Émilion (Pouring at Restaurant Hubert)
  • 2015 Torbreck ‘Les Amis’ Grenache (Pouring at Jonah’s)
  • 2012 Rippon ‘Mature Vine’ Pinot Noir (Pouring at Oborozuki)
  • 1996 Vasse Felix ‘Heytesbury’ Cabernet Sauvignon (Pouring at Kipling’s Garage Bar)
  • 1988 Lindemans ‘Limestone Ridge’ Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Pouring at Kipling’s Garage Bar)
  • 1988 Marc Bredif “Grand Annee” Chenin Blanc (Pouring at Oborozuki)

Thanks to Coravin’s pioneering by-the-glass systems, participating venues can pour these world-class vintage wines with the confidence that the last glass will be just as exceptional as the first.

Coravin National Account Manager Dom Coulton said: “With older vintages becoming increasingly scarce on restaurant menus, this is an extraordinary chance to taste classic styles and iconic producers, some going back decades.

“Whether you’re curious to try a 1980s Cabernet, an iconic 2016 Cristal, or a legendary Sauternes, our ‘Vintage By-The-Glass’ celebration is the ultimate playground for Sydney wine lovers. We’ve partnered with the city’s most exciting bars and restaurants all month long, giving you the perfect excuse to map out your own tasting tour while supporting our incredible local hospitality community.”
