Sydney Brewery Surry Hills is relaunching its microbrewery, bar and bistro this week and celebrating with a new Hoppy Golden Pale Ale.

Attached to Rydges Sydney Central, the Brewery is just minutes from Central Station and the city centre. The refurbishment has an industrial warehouse vibe, with exposed brick and concrete walls and street art across the walls.

Sydney Brewery Surry Hills launched eight years ago as a hub for craft beer lovers, a venue where patrons can watch brewers at work as they sip fresh brews, enjoy tasty pub food, listen to live music from local bands, and then take home a fresh growler of quality craft brew.

Rydges Sydney Central General Manager Brittany Peacock-Smith said: “The upgrade reflects everything we love about this neighbourhood: its energy, its character and its people.

“We’ve put a lot of care into creating a space that feels fresh while staying true to what locals and our regular guests already love about it. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back.”

Sydney Brewery’s Danielle McDonald and Nate Holgersson have brewed a special beer for the relaunch: a Hoppy Golden Pale Ale. Bright golden in colour it features fresh lime, passionfruit and citrus flavours, while the Taiheke and Simcoe hops deliver vibrant New Zealand hop character, supported by subtle biscuit malt notes and a clean, crisp finish.

The food menu is centred around refined Australian pub favourites. Dishes include Sydney Rock Oysters with cider mignonette and Steak Frites with Chimichurri.

Sydney Brewery Surry Hills Bar Manager Ewan MacKechnie said: “Surry Hills has such a strong personality and sense of community, and that’s something we really wanted to embrace with the Brewery.

“The refurbishment has given the venue a new feel, but at its core it’s still the Brewery our regulars know. We want it to be somewhere people can drop in for a beer after work, share a meal with friends, watch the game. or stop by before or after attending a game at the SCG or Allianz Stadium.”

Sydney Brewery Surry Hills will officially reopen on 2 October 2026.
