Pubs prepare for record-breaking NRL Grand Final

The NRL & NRLW Telstra Premiership Grand Final returns to Accor Stadium on Sunday 4 October, with the game expected to inject $20 million into the NSW economy alone.

The Sydney Roosters and Brisbane Broncos are facing off in the NRLW and the Roosters are taking on the Newcastle Knights in the men’s final, with pubs, clubs and other hospitality venues also expected to be big winners.

More than 80,000 fans will flock to Sydney’s Accor Stadium, with hundreds of thousands of supporters also expected to pack out venues across Australia to watch the matches.

It’s the first time the Newcastle Knights have made the Grand Final since 2001 and the Hunter has gone wild with excitement. Pubs and clubs are booked out for the game, with venues adding TVs and extra tables and doubling beer deliveries.

Around 22,500 tickets were also snapped up for the McDonald Jones Stadium grand final live site within three minutes of going on sale. During the event, fans are expected to consume around 15,000 bottles of water and soft drinks, 5000 litres of beer, 1.25 tonnes of hot chips, 375 kilograms of chicken, 2500 meat pies, 1750 hot dogs and 1750 sausage rolls.

Minister for the Hunter Yasmin Catley said: “The Hunter is absolutely buzzing. You can see it everywhere, from packed pubs to red and blue right across the region. All eyes are on us.

“We back our own, we get behind our team and, when something big is happening, the whole region gets around it. The game might be in Sydney, but there’s no doubt where the heart of this grand final is.”

Bottle shops have been getting into the spirit across the region, as fans stock up to watch the game at home.

The 2025 NRL grand final between the Broncos and Storm attracted 4.55 million viewers and was the number one TV program in Australia in 2025.
