TWE sells Rosemount back to Oatley family

Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) has announced the sale of the Rosemount, Ingoldby and Secret Stone brands to A.G Oatley Wines.

It follows TWE’s recent sale of the Seppelt, Rouge Homme and Tollana brands to local owners and follows just days after Oatley Wines purchased Murray Street Vineyard in the Barossa Valley.

The sale will see Rosemount return to its founding family. Rosemount Wines was founded by Australian vintner and businessman Bob Oatley in 1969, who sold it to Southcorp in 2001 for almost $1.5 billion.

TWE said the sale of the three brands to Oatley Wines forms part of its broader transformation agenda to condense its 76 brands to a priority portfolio of 30 global and regional brands.

This includes investment to grow its “Power” brands (Penfolds, DAOU, Matua) and “Regional Heroes” (Wynns, Pepperjack, Coldstream Hills, Squealing Pig, Frank Family Vineyards, Beaulieu Vineyard, and Stags’ Leap Winery) over the long term.

TWE Managing Director, Australia & New Zealand and Europe Angus Lilley said: “Since we announced our transformation agenda last year, we’ve sold five brands and a range of non-priority assets as we focus our investment and resources to grow in key markets.

“The Oatleys bring deep experience in Australian wine and are well placed to take Rosemount, Ingoldby and Secret Stone into the future. We’ll work closely with them to ensure a smooth handover for customers.”

Oatley Wines owner Sandy Oatley said: “We are thrilled to be able to bring Rosemount home to our family once again. I worked with my father building Rosemount into a globally recognised Australian brand for 20 years. To have the opportunity to now work on the brand with my daughter Nicky, is an extraordinary full circle moment.”

Oatley’s expansion of its wine empire follows the family selling Hamilton Island to US equity firm Blackstone for an estimated $1.2 billion in December 2025. The Oatley family acquired the island in 2003.

The sale includes the three brands and associated inventory and is expected to complete on 23 October 2026.

TWE will retain royalty-free rights to sell Rosemount in Europe for up to three years, with no immediate change to customer ordering arrangements in those markets.
