Licor 43 releases vegan liqueur

Licor 43 Horchata vegan liqueur has been released on the eve of World Vegan Day celebrations on November 1.

The new vegan tiger nut-based liqueur from the Zamora Company features a sweet Mediterranean flavour, layered with Valencian-grown super food the tiger nut. As for the flavour, think Baileys but vegan.

Horchata, or orxata, is a name given to various kinds of plant milk beverages of similar taste and appearance. It originated at least as far back as 13th-century Valencia, in Spain.

Licor 43 Horchata is best served chilled from the fridge and poured over ice. Alternatively, the Valencia Café 43 cocktail blends Licor 43 Horchata, coffee, pineapple and cinnamon, while the fruity Mediterranean Breeze blends Villa Massa Limoncello with Licor 43 Horchata on ice.

“Innovation has long lain at the heart of Licor 43, with Licor 43 Horchata we wanted a delicious product in the cream liqueur category that also meets the growing consumer demand for lighter and non-dairy alternatives”, said Julian Fernandez, a global marketing and innovation director for spirits at Zamora Company.

“This delicate liqueur is the ultimate indulgence to enjoy with family and friends during their after-meal moments. It’s gluten-free, vegan, nut-free formula means that all can enjoy.”

Jane Barnett, Mintel’s South Asia Pacific head of insights, says that according to latest research, 14% of Australians intend to go vegetarian or vegan, while 22% plan on reducing their meat consumption in the next year.

Licor 43 vegan liqueur is only 16% ABV and distributed by Spirits Platform. RRP $39.99 and available from Dan Murphy’s (online) Booze Bud, Tipple and selected independent retailers.
