12 amazing cocktails to celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo is traditionally celebrated on May 5, but you can enjoy these tequila cocktails all through May, during Australian Cocktail Month.

The holiday held in honour of a Mexican military victory in 1862 over the French forces of Napoleon III. The day is celebrated in the state of Puebla and has become popular more recently as a way for Mexican living abroad to express pride in their heritage.

Three of Mexico’s best premium tequila distillers – 1800 Reposado, Herradura Plata and Patrón Silver Tequilas – have partnered with Australian Cocktail Month to ensure the most delicious tequila cocktails will be served across Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide throughout the event.

1800 Reposado Tequila cocktails

Lover in Melbourne – 6pm Somewhere (above) – It’s about to get tiki, with 1800 Reposado Tequila and tropical notes of Crawley’s Ginger Syrup, Okar Tropical, bitters and Fever-Tree. Blood Orange Soda.

Jangling Jacks in Sydney – Deathproof – Chamomile 1800 Reposado Tequila with the surprise of chilli fermented honey, sotol, lemon and Fever-Tree Blood Orange Soda.

Blackbird in Brisbane – The City Escape – 1800 Reposado Tequila, Fever-Tree Pink Grapefruit, lime, Crawley’s Burnt Orange and Vanilla Syrup and garnished with a lime wheel.

Nola in Adelaide – Smoked Macadamia Tequila Fizz -1800 Reposado Tequila teamed with classic Tia Maria, Monin Macadamia Syrup, lime, wonderfoam and Fever-Tree Smoked Ginger Ale.

Heartbreaker in Melbourne – Tommy’s Margarita Slushie – Herradura Plata Tequila, lime cordial, Crawley’s Agave and citric acid water mix. Perfect for dancing the night away.

Doorknock in Sydney – Hacienda Down Under (above) – Where Mexico meets Australia: Herradura Plata Tequila, apricot brandy, salted plum agave vinegar, lemon juice, and Fever-Tree Yuzu Soda with a skewered burnt plum.

Alba Bar & Dining in Brisbane – Big Boi’s Margarita – Herradura Plata Tequila, lime, agave, salt and amaro.

Pink Moon Saloon in Adelaide – Beach-Tiki for the Citi – Herradura Plata Tequila, Crawley’s Pineapple and Orgeat syrups, lime juice and garnished with a pineapple frond.

Nick & Nora’s in Melbourne – Mango & Menthe Old Fashioned (pictured main, centre) – What is better than Patrón Silver Tequila? When it is washed with white cacao butter and added to sour mango and Acqua Bianca by Salvatore Calabrese.

Big Poppas in Sydney – Antidote – Patrón Silver Tequila, Mezcal, lemon, Crawley’s Simple Syrup, honey, habanero bitters and egg white.

La Costa in Brisbane – Mexican Martini (above) – Patrón Silver Tequila, vermouth, clarified citrus cordial and crowned with an orange bitters bubble.

West at Henley in Adelaide – Little Pink Paloma – Patrón Silver Tequila, ruby grapefruit infusion, Crawley’s Orgeat and Simple Syrups, strawberry maceration, fresh pressed ruby grapefruit juice, and Fever-Tree Pink Grapefruit Soda.

What is Australian Cocktail Month?

Australian Cocktail Month is founded by influential industry figure, Penny Sippe, who said: “Australian Cocktail Month was developed to support the cocktail and broader hospitality industry. It has been a fulfilling process to develop and deliver this project for the industry – now it is over to the public to gather their friends, grab a ticket and get out there and experience what our bartenders can deliver.”

Held across Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, Australian Cocktail Month has partnered with some of the best local and international alcohol brands to champion the country’s bar industry. Consumers will unlock unique bar experiences, escape the day to day and enjoy delicious cocktails with the Australian Cocktail Month ticket.

The $20 ticket allows guests access to a special menu of cocktails created exclusively for the month. The menu will be available at participating venues, with cocktails priced at $14, and non-alcoholic options at $10.
