BWS is auctioning three bottles of American whiskey that are so rare they’ve been named ‘The Untouchables’.

“Sales of premium bourbon and whiskey have increased by 50% in the last year, so we have secured some impossibly rare bourbons in order to meet this increase in demand,” explained BWS Category Manager Glass Spirits Elise McNeil. 

This is the first time BWS has hosted an auction, and the retailer has partnered with fine wine house Langton’s to facilitate the auction and with drinks distributor Brown-Forman to secure the rare whiskey bottles.

“Rare, refined and highly sought after, The Untouchables are three of the finest all-American bourbons and whiskies ever made,” McNeil added. “We searched far and wide for these three bottles, and now we’re giving you a chance to own a piece of history plus enjoy a private tasting experience for you and three buddies.”

The auction includes a bottle of Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition, which is traditionally only available at duty-free shops for $3000 RRP. This rare drop is crafted by ageing super premium Kentucky Bourbon in select XO Cognac barrels, and has been bottled in a handmade crystal decanter.

The retailer also has a bottle of Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Century available up for grabs, which is valued at $1000. The whiskey is one of the most limited the Jack Daniel’s distillery has ever released and it celebrates 100 years of Frank Sinatra and his love for Jack Daniels – the singer was famously buried with a bottle of JD!

Finally, BWS will have a bottle of Old Forester 2020 Birthday Bourbon that is expected to go under the hammer for around $300.  

“This limited edition bottle is to celebrate Old Forester’s 150 years, and traditionally this is sold only direct from the distillery in Kentucky, and the allocation sells out in a matter of hours,” said McNeil. “There are only three bottles available for retail in Australia, and this is one of them.”

The winning bids don’t have to open their rare whiskey to taste it if they don’t want to. Each successful bidder will also win an exclusive tasting session for themselves and a few of their friends which will include tastings of the whiskey they have won in the auction, as well as other premium whiskies from Brown-Forman.
