The latest addition to the Wines by Kylie Minogue range, a Margaret River chardonnay, will finally be available in Australian next month.
It joins Kylie Minogue Signature Rosé (2019); Kylie Minogue Signature Merlot (2019); Kylie Minogue Signature Sauvignon Blanc (2020) and is being distributed by De Bortoli Family Winemakers.
The singer announced on social media that the wine would be on sale from July. Minogue visited Howard Park in April to sample her wine at the vineyard where it was created. She said winemaker Janice McDonald and the Howard Park team “have delivered and I’m so proud”.
“It started as a flight of fancy and then the further I got into it, I made it my mission to make quality paramount,’ she told Grazia after the trip. “I have an amazing team who have guided me through the process. During my time in Australia I was able to visit two of the vineyards who make some of the wine – Howard Park Wines in the beautiful Margaret River region of West Australia who make the award-winning Chardonnay and the wonderful De Bortoli estate in Yarra Valley, Victoria who have made our delicious Pinot Noir.”
Kylie Minogue Chardonnay won a Gold medal earlier this year in the 2020 Drinks Business Global Chardonnay Masters. Judge Patrick Schmitt said the wine was: “A classic, cooler-climate, medium-weight, and youthful New World Chardonnay with layers of fruit flavours from fresh peach, to ripe pear and citrus zest, with lingering background characters of buttercream and toast, along with a bright, crisp apple finish. Very good.”
It’s also been described as excellent value for money.
Gerard Richardson, drinks writer at the Herald Scotland said: “Wow, Kylie couldn’t have picked a better vineyard to work with because this is a top class Chardonnay and the best twenty quid you can spend. Floral and peach aromas on the nose with a palate of roasted nuts, citrus fruits and a creamy vanilla finish. This is right up there with a decent Puligny Montrachet costing three times as much.”
