Jack Daniel’s releases limited-edition McLaren whiskey

To celebrate its partnership with the McLaren Formula 1 team, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey has released a limited-edition McLaren Racing bottle in Australia.

The first in a highly-collectible series of exclusive releases, the limited-edition McLaren x Jack Daniel’s bottle is only available in select markets across the globe and features unique packaging to commemorate each brand’s pioneering founders – Jack Daniel’s and Bruce McLaren.

The two brands announced their global partnership in September 2022, sharing that Jack Daniel’s imagery would appear on the team’s racing cars and be accompanied by themed cocktail recipes and other marketing activations throughout the year.

“Entering the fast-growing world of Formula 1 with McLaren Racing aligns perfectly with our vision to make Jack Daniel’s the most iconic spirits brand globally,” Jack Daniel’s global managing director Sophia Angelis said.

“Jack Daniel’s and McLaren Racing have always been bold, confident brands and we are excited about the platform that this partnership presents to take our message to a new audience and engage fans all over the world.”

To mark the 2023 Australian Grand Prix, the whiskey also launched the Papaya Pit-Stop, a cocktail inspired by the McLaren F1 Team, at a renowned Melbourne rooftop bar, Bomba Bar.

Papaya Pit Stop

  • 40ml Jack Daniels
  • 15ml rosé vermouth
  • 15ml papaya amaro
  • 5ml Aperol
  • 20ml lemon

Method: Garnish a large coupe or flute glass (optional): dehydrate papaya seeds and blitz in a spice grinder. Use a wedge of grapefruit to mark a racing ‘stripe’ on your glass and dab in the seeds, shaking off any excess. Add all ingredients to shaker tin, ice and shake. Double strain using hawthorne and fine strainers into glass. Top up the garnish: cut a strip of grapefruit zest and trim, twist over your glass to expel the oils and add to the side of the glass.

With just 2000 of the limited edition bottles available in Australia, the co-founder of Australia’s largest online whisky retailer The Whisky List, Oliver Maruda, predicts that each $80 700ml bottle could significantly increase in value as a collector’s item in the years to come.

“Despite our small population, Australia is the third-largest export market for US whiskey,” Maruda said.

“There has always been serious demand for brands like Jack Daniel’s here, especially with limited edition expressions having completely sold out. “This unique collaboration between Jack Daniel’s and McLaren gives whiskey and F1 fans a great opportunity to pick up a bottle to drink now and another to collect for the future. Given this bottle is a limited-edition offering, it’s highly likely it will rise in value in the years to come.”

Jack Daniel’s Australia Brand Manager Emily Nget said“Our partnership with the McLaren Formula 1 team is one we’re truly proud of with our shared foundation of celebrating team sport and drinking responsibly. This limited-edition bottle will give Jack Daniel’s and McLaren fans another reason to celebrate, with the opportunity for them to own a piece of brand history in a bottle.”

The limited-edition bottles will be available at Dan Murphy’sLiquorlandFirst ChoiceBoozebud and other independent retailers from next week until stock lasts, at an RRP of $80.
