1800 Tequila has extended its premium tequila range in Australia with the introduction of 1800 Cristalino, a crystal-clear Añejo tequila. 

The spirit is crafted using 1800’s 220-year-old Añejo recipe, which is aged in barrels for 16 months, before the 1800 Cristalino liquid is further finished in port wine casks. It is then meticulously filtered to create a smooth Añejo-style tequila that magnifies the flavour and aromas offered from the barrels, while maintaining the herbal and sweet notes from the agave.

Drinks Digest explored the versatility of the spirit at a tasting event at Clocktower Bar in Sydney’s Shell House. The experience included savouring the complex, delicious flavours of the spirit neat and also in two cocktails.

While its depth of flavour is definitely something that should be enjoyed on its own or on the rocks, like a fine whisky, it was also spectacular in a Toronja Margarita, with sherry, lemon juice, pink grapefruit juice and orange bitters; and in a Cristalino Highball with yuzu soda and pear liqueur.

The world’s fastest growing spirit brand

Brand Finance’s Fastest Growing Spirits for 2023 list recently named 1800 Tequila as the number fastest-growing spirit for 2023 after it more than doubled in value last year, up 111.5% to $US424 million.

1800 was also named the fifth biggest-selling tequila brand in the world, according to Brand Champions 2023 data. It sold 2.5million nine-litre cases in 2022, an increase of 22.5%. Sales for 1800 rose 0.8% in the three months ending 30 June 2023.
