Barrelhouse Cellars opens in The Rocks

Barrelhouse Group has opened a namesake Barrelhouse Cellars in Sydney’s most historic enclave, The Rocks.

The new venture comes from the team behind Hickson House, The Barber Shop and The Duke of Clarence and aims to take the bottle shop experience to a new level.

The store backs onto an historic paved courtyard on the ever-evolving Kendall Lane and will offer individual tastings and themed flights, such as Australian gins and New World whiskies.

The store will be managed by industry veteran Nick Minogue, who will showcase independent, craft producers with an Australian focus. He’s already secured a previously cellared private wine collection and his team has hunted for spirits to complement the Hickson House’s award-winning Hickson Rd. Gin range.

Minogue said: “Whether you’re a local popping in on a weeknight, or a traveller seeking a memorable, local shopping experience, we’ll find you the perfect drop.”

To elevate patrons’ home serving, the Barrelhouse Cellars team also offers bottled cocktails from leading local bars, hand-cut ice and cocktail garnishes; alongside artisanal cheeses, pates and charcuterie.

A tasting table will also see regular meet-the-maker sessions for members of Barrelhouse Club, the Cellars loyalty program.

Barrelhouse Group founders Julian Train and Mikey Enright said: “The Cellars is the next stage of our longer-term vision for The Rocks. We wanted to created an accessible, inviting, local bottle shop; drawing on our hospitality experience to add a few features we couldn’t find elsewhere.

“The paved tasting courtyard is particularly special. Come down soon to grab a sip and a bottle.”

Barrelhouse Cellars is open from 10am daily until 8pm on Monday to Wednesday, until 9pm on Thursday and Friday, until 8pm on Saturday, and until 6pm on Sunday, at 73 George St, The Rocks.

The team can also pack all bottles for nationwide delivery, or same day in Sydney, via the online store at www.barrelhousecellars.com.
