Google has shared its list of Australia’s top recipe search trends of the year and the Pornstar Martini has taken the No.1 cocktail spot for 2023.

The cocktail is a mix of passionfruit liqueur, vanilla vodka, lime juice and champagne or prosecco. It has been a list topper in the UK for years, but its popularity is finally taking off Down Under.

The Pornstar Martini has garnered millions of views on TikTok and a huge spike in Google searches.

The most popular state or territory for Pornstar Martini searches was Western Australia. The least popular was Queensland.

The inventor of the Pornstar Martini and co-founder of the London Academy of Bartending (Lab), Douglas Ankrah, passed away in 2021. Ankrah created the cocktail in 2002 at The Townhouse Bar in London.

“It was a complete accident,” he told Punch. “Sometimes writing a song can take two minutes or a year. I created this in 15 minutes or less. Like how Mick and Keith wrote ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ in 10 minutes.”

Among other popular cocktail recipe searches in Australia were “Margarita”, “Martini” and “Mojito” and “Cosmopolitan”. The top trending term was “Watermelon Margarita”.

It came in at number seven on the trending recipes list behind “Coronation quiche recipe”, “Grimace shake recipe”, “Coronation chicken recipe”, “CWA Anzac biscuit recipe”, “Chicken Honolulu recipe” and “Lamb stew recipe”. We have so many questions for Google after seeing that list …

Pornstar Martini

• 30ml Passoã Passionfruit Liqueur
• 30ml Vodka
• 10ml Licor 43 Liqueur
• 20ml lime juice
• 30ml Prosecco

METHOD: Pour all ingredients and ice into a shaker. Shake well and fine strain into a chilled coupette glass. Garnish with half the passionfruit shell floating in the cocktail. Serve with a shot of Prosecco or sparkling wine.

According to Inside Hook, in the United States the top trending cocktail list for 2023 was mostly comprised of early 20th-century classics undergoing a revival.
